Palmer is a neighborhood of West Bloomington located southwest of the intersection of 84th Street and France Avenue. The neighborhood is larger than most, featuring around 250 single family homes ranging from $200,000 to $400,000 in price. The style of most homes in Palmer are ranches and split levels.
Palmer is formed around Poplar Bridge Playground, which sits on 6 acres of land. The park has amenities such as a basketball court, hockey rink, playground, and softball field. Other parks in the area include Girard Lake Park, Skriebakken Park, and Nord Myr Park. Located on the northside of the Normandale Park Community are popular shops and restaurants such as Caribou Coffee, Olive Garden, Pancheros Mexican Grill, Marshall’s, and Trader Joe’s. Numerous other shops can be found across Interstate 494 at the Southdale Shopping Center.
Palmer is a part of Bloomington Public Schools District, which has served the entire City of Bloomington since 1917. Located within the neighborhood is Poplar Bridge Elementary School. The school serves around 500 students and has a teacher/student ratio of 15.5. Other nearby schools include Normandale Community College and Bethany Academy.
